Captured by Lagacs is a three-mana Arrest variant with a minor upside — it exiles instead of enchanting, stripping activated and triggered abilities alongside the attack and block restriction. The exile clause makes it cleaner than most pacifism effects, but three mana for a single-target permanent lock is a hard sell when Commander removal needs to do more.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Pauper is where Captured by Lagacs has the most legitimate claim — the format's removal suite is constrained, and a clean exile-based lock on a creature or problematic permanent carries real weight at common. In Commander, three mana for one permanent is below the bar; the format's pace and threat density demand removal that generates tempo or answers multiple things, and Captured by Lagacs does neither. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters — the card is outclassed by every alternative at the same cost. Modern has better options at every point on the curve, so it sees no play there either.
