Captivating Glance
Enchantment — Aura
Enchant creature
At the beginning of your end step, clash with an opponent. If you win, gain control of enchanted creature. Otherwise, that player gains control of enchanted creature. (Each clashing player reveals the top card of their library, then puts that card on their choice of the top or bottom. A player wins if their card had a greater mana value.)

Captivating Glance steals a creature every time you roll three or more dice in a single turn — no mana payment after the first cast, just repeated board theft stapled to an engine that already wants to roll as many dice as possible. The cost is variance: zero dice rolled means zero effect, so outside of dedicated dice-rolling decks, Captivating Glance does nothing. In Marvo, Deep Operative, that condition is trivially met on almost every turn.

Marvo, Deep Operative
Marvo, Deep Operative triggers dice rolls on every spell cast and impulse-draws into more spells that trigger more rolls, meaning Captivating Glance is virtually guaranteed to fire every turn cycle — turning the entire dice engine into a repeating Threaten that never costs additional mana.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Captivating Glance is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it sees essentially no competitive play outside Commander. Legacy and Vintage have no infrastructure for rolling three dice in a turn without dedicating a deck to it, and even then the effect doesn't approach what those formats demand. Modern technically supports it but the same problem applies — the payoff is conditional creature theft rather than a game-ending threat. Commander is the only format where Captivating Glance earns its slot, specifically in Marvo, Deep Operative builds that roll dice as their primary mechanic and can trigger the ability reliably enough to make it worth a card slot.

Price Context
Current price
$0.44 bulk tier
At $0.44, Captivating Glance is firmly bulk — cheap enough to throw into any Marvo, Deep Operative build without a second thought. Bulk rares with narrow homes don't typically climb in price, so treat this as an easy pick-up rather than a spec.
