Canoptek Tomb Sentinel card art
Canoptek Tomb Sentinel locks an opponent's nonland permanent under it on entry and holds it hostage until the Sentinel dies — that's repeatable, reanimation-friendly removal stapled to a body. Imotekh the Stormlord decks run it in over half their lists because exile-on-ETB scales up every time you blink or recur it.

Imotekh the Stormlord

Imotekh the Stormlord

54.2% of decks · synergy 0.52

Imotekh the Stormlord generates Necron Warrior tokens whenever opponents cast spells, and Canoptek Tomb Sentinel's exile trigger buys the time needed to build that board — more than half of all Imotekh lists include it for exactly that reason.

02
Zask, Skittering Swarmlord

Zask, Skittering Swarmlord

42.6% of decks · synergy 0.42

Zask, Skittering Swarmlord cares about Insects going to the graveyard and coming back, and Canoptek Tomb Sentinel fits that recursion loop while pulling double duty as permanent removal — Zask decks include it at over 42% clip.

Canoptek Tomb Sentinel is a Commander card through and through — its value compounds in a multiplayer game where you can recur it, blink it, and keep exiling threats from three opponents. It's technically legal in Legacy and Vintage, but a five-mana 4/4 with no immediate board-ending impact has no path to those formats' competitive tables. Oathbreaker is the only other format where its ETB gameplan fits, and even there the smaller starting life total means five mana is a real ask.
