Candletrap locks down a creature permanently for one white mana, as long as you keep a Coven creature on the battlefield — a condition most white-heavy decks meet trivially. It's one of the most efficient single-target answers in the format, and the enchantment type opens up synergy lines that straight removal never gets.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Candletrap earns a slot in any white deck running Coven payoffs or token swarms, where maintaining three creatures with different powers is a background condition rather than a cost. In Pauper, one-mana permanent answers are rare enough that Candletrap sees genuine play in white creature strategies that can reliably enable Coven by turn two or three. Modern and Pioneer have more efficient removal at instant speed, so Candletrap is mostly outclassed there unless you're deliberately building around enchantments. Legacy and Vintage have no interest — the card pool makes this redundant.

Price Context
Current price
$0.13 bulk tier
At $0.13, Candletrap is deep bulk — pick up as many as you need without a second thought. Bulk enchantment-based removal rarely spikes unless a breakout commander or Pauper deck pushes demand, so expect it to stay in this range.
