Cabal Therapist strips a named card from an opponent's hand every turn for free, as long as you have a creature to sacrifice. The catch is the sorcery-speed naming and the sacrifice cost — both of which become non-issues the moment your deck generates expendable bodies.

In Commander, Cabal Therapist earns its slot in any black deck that produces tokens or sacrifices creatures for value — the repeatable discard scales up against three opponents in ways a one-shot spell never could. Legacy has the original Cabal Therapy, which is strictly faster and goes to the graveyard for flashback; Cabal Therapist is the budget stand-in, not the upgrade. Modern can run it, but dedicated discard shells prefer surgical effects or cheaper threats, so it rarely makes the cut. Vintage is too fast for a creature that needs summoning sickness to wear off.

Price Context
Current price
$0.27 bulk tier
At $0.27, Cabal Therapist is deep bulk — pickup cost is trivial and there's no financial downside to trying it in a list. Bulk rares with narrow applications don't appreciate, so treat it as a free experiment rather than a hold.
