Brood Monitor card art
Brood Monitor enters and immediately puts three Eldrazi Scion tokens on the battlefield — six mana worth of sacrifice fodder or ramp spread across three bodies. The six-mana price tag is steep, but Eldrazi Displacer and Emiel the Blessed both loop it for repeated ETL value, and that's where Brood Monitor stops being a draft card and starts being an engine piece.

Emiel the Blessed can bounce Brood Monitor for three mana, netting a fresh set of Scions every turn and generating infinite tokens with a free sacrifice outlet — Brood Monitor is one of the most consistent combo pieces in any Emiel list.

Brood Monitor is a Commander card, full stop. The combination of a large body, immediate token production, and clean synergy with blink and flicker effects makes it a reliable engine piece in the right shells, where six mana is a reasonable ask. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's outclassed on rate — you're paying six for a 3/3 and three 1/1s in formats where that buys you game-ending threats. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's singleton environment and the same token loops apply, but the 20-life starting total compresses game speed enough that the six-mana slot is contested.

Price Context

Current price

$0.13 bulk tier

At $0.13, Brood Monitor is deep bulk — a penny-bin pickup that punches far above its price in the decks that want it. Bulk rares with narrow but genuine combo applications tend to stay cheap indefinitely, so there's no urgency, but no risk either.
