Brainbite gives you a Divination stapled to a Coercion — you draw two cards and strip the best card from an opponent's hand at four mana. That's a real two-for-one, but four mana at sorcery speed is a steep ask in formats where cheaper interaction exists.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Brainbite is bulk in competitive formats — Modern and Legacy have Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek at one mana, making a four-mana sorcery-speed discard effect unplayable there. In Pauper, the card-draw attached to the discard is more meaningful since raw card advantage is harder to come by, though it still competes with cheaper options. Commander is where Brainbite is most at home: multiplayer slows the tempo tax, and combining hand disruption with card draw on a single card slot is genuinely efficient for a 99-card singleton format.

Price Context
Current price
$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Brainbite is deep bulk — a pickup you make by the playset because the price can't really go lower. It holds no speculative value, but as a Commander role-player it costs less than a sleeve.
