Body Double card art
Body Double enters as a copy of any creature in any graveyard — opponent's bomb included — for five mana, which is the whole pitch. The cost is real, but Karmic Guide loops and Lazav, Dimir Mastermind synergies push it well past bulk status in graveyard-heavy Commander builds.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Lazav, Dimir Mastermind

Lazav, Dimir Mastermind

30.7% of decks · synergy 0.29

Lazav, Dimir Mastermind mills aggressively and wants redundant graveyard targets, and Body Double slots in as a second copy of whatever creature Lazav is already impersonating — doubling up on the best threat in any graveyard at instant-speed setup.

02
Mirko, Obsessive Theorist

Mirko, Obsessive Theorist

28.8% of decks · synergy 0.27

Mirko, Obsessive Theorist's mill engine fills graveyards fast, and Body Double converts those piles into immediate threats by entering as the biggest creature already milled — often an opponent's game-winner turned against them.

03
The Mimeoplasm

The Mimeoplasm

18.8% of decks · synergy 0.18

The Mimeoplasm decks stock graveyards as a resource, and Body Double fills out the clone suite so the deck can copy the same high-value targets even after The Mimeoplasm has already consumed them.

04
Araumi of the Dead Tide

Araumi of the Dead Tide

19.0% of decks · synergy 0.17

Araumi of the Dead Tide enables encore, and Body Double gets its enters-the-battlefield copy trigger on each token, letting the deck harvest multiple graveyard impersonations in one swing.

05
Bane, Lord of Darkness

Bane, Lord of Darkness

13.5% of decks · synergy 0.13

Bane, Lord of Darkness leverages creature death as a trigger engine, and Body Double steps in as a flexible reanimation piece that arrives as whatever creature is currently most threatening in any graveyard.

Commander is where Body Double does its real work — graveyard density is high, targets are enormous, and the political upside of copying an opponent's creature is unique to multiplayer. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but rarely sees play; five mana for a clone effect is too slow against the formats' threats, and Phantasmal Image or Phyrexian Metamorph fill the clone role cheaper. Modern is the same story — the rate doesn't compete. Body Double is effectively a Commander card that happens to have broader legality.
