Blood Baron of Vizkopa card art
Blood Baron of Vizkopa is a five-mana 4/4 with lifelink and protection from white and black — two of the most common removal colors in Commander — that snowballs into a 10/10 flyer the moment you hit 30 life or drop an opponent to 10. The cost is real: double white and double black makes this a hard cast in three-plus color decks, and it does nothing if you can't gain life or attack into someone low.

In Commander, Blood Baron of Vizkopa earns its slot in Orzhov lifegain decks that can reliably spike to 30 life — Oloro, Ageless Ascetic and Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim shells can flip it in the midgame and present a flying 10/10 that most board wipes can't touch due to its protection. In Modern and Pioneer, it never found a home; five mana is too slow for those formats and the payoff requires setup that faster decks punish brutally. Legacy and Vintage have access to it but would never run it — Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Force of Will don't care about a 10/10. Commander is the only realistic home for Blood Baron of Vizkopa, and even there it's a role-player rather than a format staple.
