Birthing Ritual
Enchantment
At the beginning of your end step, if you control a creature, look at the top seven cards of your library. Then you may sacrifice a creature. If you do, you may put a creature card with mana value X or less from among those cards onto the battlefield, where X is 1 plus the sacrificed creature's mana value. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

Birthing Ritual swaps a creature you control for any creature in your library — on the board, at instant speed, for five mana. That's a toolbox tutor stapled to a sacrifice outlet, and Henzie "Toolbox" Torre decks run it because the combination of searching and deploying is exactly what that engine wants.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Henzie "Toolbox" Torre
Henzie "Toolbox" Torre's blink ability already rewards jamming high-impact creatures into play ahead of curve, and Birthing Ritual closes the loop — sacrifice a spent or summoning-sick body, fetch exactly the threat the board demands, and put it directly into play.

Brenard, Ginger Sculptor
Brenard, Ginger Sculptor generates Golem tokens as creatures die, so sacrificing to Birthing Ritual isn't a cost so much as a trigger — you get a new creature from your library and a Golem copy of the one you just fed away.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Birthing Ritual actually lives — the singleton format rewards flexible mid-to-late-game tutors, and five mana to fetch any creature straight into play is a clean rate when you have a sacrifice-ready body. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but competes against faster, cheaper options and will rarely see play outside of niche reanimator or creature-combo shells looking for a specific redundant piece. Modern is the same story: the cost and sorcery-speed restriction don't fit the format's tempo expectations. Oathbreaker is a reasonable home if your planeswalker-commander strategy leans on a creature toolbox, but Birthing Ritual's ceiling there is lower than in Commander's longer games.

Price data for Birthing Ritual isn't currently available, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for the live number before buying. Given its 43% inclusion rate in Henzie "Toolbox" Torre decks and reasonable demand across creature-value strategies, expect it to sit in the budget-to-mid range rather than as a high-dollar pickup.
