Binding Agony copies each damage event dealt to its enchanted creature back onto that creature's controller — a punishment enchantment that turns every attack, block, and ping into a drain on their life total. The setup is cheap and the effect is continuous, but it does nothing unless the enchanted creature is taking damage, which makes it a tempo card dressed as a threat.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Binding Agony is a bulk common in Pauper, where it's simply too slow and conditional to compete — damage-redirection enchantments need a target to stick to and an opponent willing to let it resolve, neither of which is reliable in that format. In Commander it finds its best home in pain-themed or group slug decks, where the enchanted creature is likely to see combat regularly and the 40-life baseline gives the effect more room to matter. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters; Binding Agony doesn't come close to the power threshold those formats demand.

Price Context
Current price
$0.18 bulk tier
At $0.18, Binding Agony sits firmly in bulk territory — the kind of card you pull from a common box rather than buy. It won't appreciate; the demand ceiling is too low and the competitive applications too narrow to move the price.
