Avenging Angel card art
Avenging Angel returns to the battlefield from the graveyard at the beginning of each end step if it died that turn, giving you a recurring 3/3 flier that opponents can't permanently answer with a single kill spell. The cost is five mana for a body that trades poorly in combat — Colossal Grave-Reaver this is not — so you're paying a premium for the recursion, not the stats.

In Commander, Avenging Angel occupies a niche role in white decks that want a resilient threat on a budget — the self-recursion is genuinely annoying to deal with in a multiplayer game where removal is spread thin, but five mana for a 3/3 is a steep rate when the format is full of more efficient options. Legacy and Vintage are legal formats, but Avenging Angel doesn't come close to the power threshold either demands. Oathbreaker is the other legal home, and the same logic applies as Commander — the recursion is the selling point, the stats are the tax.
