Ashiok's Erasure card art
Ashiok's Erasure counters a spell and exiles it, then locks opponents out of casting any copy of that card for as long as the enchantment stays in play — that's a hard answer to a specific threat, not just a tempo play. The cost is the fragility: four mana is steep, and any enchantment removal breaks the lock and hands the card back.

In Commander, Ashiok's Erasure earns its slot most reliably in enchantress or flicker shells, where you can either protect it with totem armor effects or blink it to catch a new spell. Its ceiling is countering a commander's signature piece — a Cyclonic Rift, an Avenger of Zendikar — and blanking every copy of it for the game. In competitive Legacy and Vintage the four-mana ask is simply too slow; those formats answer threats before they resolve, not after. Pioneer and Modern are the middle ground: Ashiok's Erasure has seen fringe sideboard play in control builds targeting combo, but dedicated counterspells at two or three mana almost always do the job faster.

Price Context

Current price

$0.20 bulk tier

At $0.20, Ashiok's Erasure is pure bulk — easy to pick up as a playset without thinking about it. The price is unlikely to climb given how narrow the effect is, but for the cost it's a zero-regret include in any enchantment-focused Commander build that wants interaction.
