Artisan's Sorrow destroys any artifact or enchantment and lets you scry 2 — that's a clean two-for-one effect stapled onto a four-mana instant. The cost keeps it out of the most efficient removal slots, but the scry makes it pull ahead of comparable options that do nothing beyond the destroy.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Artisan's Sorrow is most at home — the format's density of artifacts and enchantments means the destroy clause almost never blanks, and scrying 2 at instant speed turns a reactive card into a small card-quality engine. In Modern, Pioneer, Legacy, and Vintage, four mana is too steep when Disenchant and Naturalize variants cost one or two and still solve the problem; competitive non-rotating formats simply won't run it. The card is not legal in Standard or Pauper, so Commander and Oathbreaker represent its real home, and Oathbreaker's tighter resource constraints make the scry rider a genuine upside there too.

$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Artisan's Sorrow sits firmly in bulk territory — this is a card you pull from a common box, not one you order. Bulk removal with scry upside doesn't tend to climb in price, so treat it as a free slot-filler until you're ready to upgrade to something with a lower mana cost.
