Artisan of Forms turns a single targeting spell into a permanent copy of any creature on the board — the effect is enormous, and the cost is just one blue mana to heroic-trigger it. Compared to Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief, which copies the spell itself, Artisan of Forms copies the creature, which is almost always the better end of the trade.

Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief
Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief's trigger fires every time a spell targets only one of your creatures, which means a single cheap cantrip aimed at Ivy also heroic-triggers Artisan of Forms — both creatures become whatever threat is scariest on the table, effectively doubling your board presence off one mana.

In Commander, Artisan of Forms earns its slot in any Heroic or Voltron-adjacent blue deck that expects to be targeting its own creatures regularly. Outside Commander, the card is legal in Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer but has never found a competitive foothold — Heroic as a mechanic was never fast enough for those formats, and Clone effects that don't require setup see more play. In Commander the political dimension matters too: copying an opponent's commander or bomb creature at instant speed, for essentially free, creates the kind of swing that wins games.

Pricing data isn't available for Artisan of Forms right now, so check Scryfall or your preferred vendor for the current market price. It's a niche card with a narrow home, so copies tend to be inexpensive — worth picking up if you're building around Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief or any Heroic commander.
