Artificer's Hex enchants an Equipment and destroys the creature wearing it at the beginning of its controller's upkeep — a conditional removal spell stapled to a permanent, for one black mana. The catch is narrow enough to matter: no Equipment on the target means no trigger, so this does nothing in decks that don't lean on that artifact subtype.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Artificer's Hex is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it sees essentially no play outside Commander. In Commander it carves out a niche against Equipment-heavy decks — Sram, Senior Edificer or Galea, Kindler of Hope builds that stack Swords and Hammers will reliably feed its trigger every upkeep. Everywhere else, the dependency on an opponent running Equipment makes it too unreliable to slot over straightforward removal.

Price Context
Current price
$0.12 bulk tier
At $0.12, Artificer's Hex sits firmly in bulk territory. It won't appreciate — the narrow condition keeps demand low — but it costs essentially nothing to throw in a list that targets Equipment-centric tables.
