Artifact Possession deals 2 damage to a target artifact's controller at the start of each of their upkeeps — attached to the right target, that's a slow drain that compounds over a long game. The cost is real: three mana for a conditional enchantment that does nothing until your opponent's next turn and folds to any artifact removal.

In Commander, Artifact Possession is too slow and too narrow — three mana for 2 damage per upkeep cycle against one player is rarely worth a card slot when you have 99 to fill and three opponents to deal with. Pauper is the only format where it sees any genuine consideration, since the card pool is limited and artifact-heavy strategies are common enough to make targeted hate meaningful. In Legacy and Vintage it's unplayable; the card simply doesn't do enough to compete at those power levels. Oathbreaker shares Commander's card-efficiency demands, so the verdict there is the same.

Price Context
Current price
$1.16 cheap tier
At $1.16, Artifact Possession sits at the low end of the cheap tier — you're not overpaying for what you get. That price is unlikely to move in either direction given the card's narrow application and lack of competitive demand.
