Arcane Lighthouse turns off hexproof and shroud on all creatures for one colorless — the permanent answer to the problem that otherwise stops targeted removal, theft, and commander damage cold. At the cost of a land slot that taps for colorless, Killian, Decisive Mentor and every other targeting-dependent strategy gets to actually do its job.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Killian, Decisive Mentor
Killian, Decisive Mentor discounts spells that target creatures, so every cheap removal or buff spell he enables needs a legal target — Arcane Lighthouse makes sure hexproof commanders and shroud creatures never shut that engine off.

Horobi, Death's Wail
Horobi, Death's Wail kills any creature that gets targeted, so Arcane Lighthouse converts every cantrip or activation that names a creature into a removal spell — nothing hiding behind hexproof survives.

Toshiro Umezawa
Toshiro Umezawa flashes back instant-speed removal from the graveyard whenever an opponent's creature dies, and Arcane Lighthouse ensures protected targets are never off-limits for that death trigger to fire.

Kelsien, the Plague
Kelsien, the Plague pings creatures to grow and clear the board, but a hexproof blocker halts both functions entirely — Arcane Lighthouse is one of the cleanest fixes that slot answers without taking up a spell slot.

Zhulodok, Void Gorger
Zhulodok, Void Gorger decks lean on massive spells that often need to hit specific targets, and Arcane Lighthouse gives those high-investment plays a clean line through hexproof or shroud protection.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Arcane Lighthouse is a Commander staple and practically nothing else — it's legal in Legacy and Vintage but sees no meaningful play there, where hexproof creatures aren't a recurring enough problem to justify a colorless land. In Commander, three or four opponents means a hexproof threat is almost always on the table at some point, and a land that costs nothing extra to include beyond a slot is the most efficient possible answer. Oathbreaker sees it for the same reason — targeted strategies need targets. Outside singleton formats, the card has no home.

Price Context
Current price
$1.60 cheap tier
At $1.60, Arcane Lighthouse sits in the sweetest budget tier: cheap enough to auto-include in any targeting-heavy Commander deck without a second thought. Demand is consistent enough across singleton formats that the price is unlikely to crater, but don't treat it as a financial hold — it's a utility land you buy and play.
