Arcane Artisan turns any card in hand into a creature token — the payoff is enormous, but you're paying three mana up front and then telegraphing your threat one turn before it arrives. In the right shell, that delay is acceptable; in a fast or interaction-heavy pod, the setup window gets punished.

Arcane Artisan is a Commander card through and through — the three-mana body, the one-turn delay, and the reliance on having expensive creatures in hand all point toward a 100-card singleton environment where you have the time and the targets to make it sing. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but functionally irrelevant; those formats demand immediate impact, and a 1/1 that does nothing until next upkeep doesn't survive contact with the format's threat density. Oathbreaker shares Commander's slower pace and could support it in the right build, but the 20-life clock compresses games enough that the setup cost bites harder.
