Apostle's Blessing card art
Apostle's Blessing gives a creature protection from a color or artifacts until end of turn — dodging a blocker, a removal spell, or a combat trick — for one mana and two life. The phyrexian mana cost is the whole point: Lyse Hext decks and other spell-centric builds cast it for free in terms of mana, which is what separates it from the pile of similar effects.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Lyse Hext

Lyse Hext

39.7% of decks · synergy 0.39

Lyse Hext's triggered ability rewards casting spells for free, and Apostle's Blessing costs zero mana when you pay life instead — that's a free trigger every time you need to push a creature through or protect a key attacker.

02
Feather, the Redeemed

Feather, the Redeemed

26.8% of decks · synergy 0.25

Feather, the Redeemed returns instants and sorceries that target your creatures to hand at end of turn, so Apostle's Blessing becomes a repeatable zero-mana protection spell that Feather recycles every combat.

03
Hinata, Dawn-Crowned

Hinata, Dawn-Crowned

24.1% of decks · synergy 0.23

Hinata, Dawn-Crowned reduces the cost of spells that target by one mana per target, which means Apostle's Blessing can cost a single white or colorless pip — dirt cheap protection that also counts as a spell for any storm or magecraft payoffs in the 99.

04
Killian, Ink Duelist

Killian, Ink Duelist

16.0% of decks · synergy 0.16

Killian, Ink Duelist reduces the cost of spells that target creatures by two generic mana, making Apostle's Blessing effectively free on the mana side and letting you spend that two life as pure upside rather than a real cost.

In Commander, Apostle's Blessing earns its slot in decks that can cast it for zero mana — phyrexian mana and commanders that reward free spells make it punching well above its weight class. In Legacy and Vintage, it sees fringe play as a protection spell in Infect and similar all-in aggro builds where speed matters more than card parity and two life is nothing. Pauper is its most competitive home outside Commander: common-legal protection at instant speed for zero mana is hard to replicate, and it shows up in infect and bogles-style lists. Modern has largely passed it by in favor of effects with longer-lasting upside, but it's still legal if a deck wants the phyrexian cost badly enough.

Price Context

Current price

$0.29 bulk tier

At $0.29, Apostle's Blessing is deep bulk — pick up as many copies as you need without thinking twice. Bulk commons with niche-but-real demand tend to sit at this floor indefinitely, so there's no urgency in either direction.
