Antagonism turns every combat across the entire table into chip damage for you — each attacking creature's controller takes 1 damage, which snowballs fast in a four-player game with aggressive pods. Five mana is the steep part, but the effect is passive and cumulative, meaning opponents have to choose between attacking and taking free hits.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |

Antagonism is a Commander card through and through — the four-player environment is where the math gets punishing, since multiple opponents attacking each other means you're collecting damage from every single swing around the table. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but irrelevant; those formats kill on turn one or two, and a five-mana enchantment with no immediate board impact doesn't make the cut. Oathbreaker follows similar Commander-style rules and could support Antagonism in a red damage-accumulation shell, though the smaller life totals compress how long the enchantment has to operate.

$0.38 bulk tier
At $0.38, Antagonism sits firmly in bulk territory despite being a unique effect with no direct functional reprint. Bulk rares with narrow homes tend to stay cheap, so don't expect price movement — pick it up freely if the deck calls for it.
