Anointer Priest turns every token that enters the battlefield into a life payment, and in the right deck that adds up faster than opponents expect. The combo ceiling is real — Famished Paladin goes infinite with it, and Darien, King of Kjeldor decks treat it as a core engine piece — but the floor is a 1/3 for two that does nothing alone.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Darien, King of Kjeldor
Darien, King of Kjeldor takes damage, makes Soldiers, and Anointer Priest converts each of those Soldiers into life — which lets you take more damage, make more Soldiers, and gain more life in a self-sustaining loop that can spiral out of control in a single combat step.

In Commander, Anointer Priest earns its slot almost exclusively in token-heavy white decks, where the life gain is incidental value on top of a wide board; outside of dedicated synergy shells it's too slow and too narrow to bother. Pauper is where the card sees the most competitive daylight — token strategies at common rarity are real, and two mana for a 1/3 that generates life on every token is a reasonable rate when the format's threats are similarly humble. Modern and Pioneer have enough redundancy in life-gain payoffs and token generators that Anointer Priest rarely makes the cut over more efficient options, though fringe combo lists occasionally pick it up. Legacy and Vintage simply don't want it.
