Angelic Sell-Sword enters swinging — a 4/4 flier with lifelink that also makes a 2/2 Soldier token on entry, giving you two bodies off one card. The seven-mana cost is the real ask, but in token-and-treasure engines like Olivia, Opulent Outlaw or reanimator shells that cheat it in, the rate becomes genuinely strong. Felothar, Dawn of the Abzan decks lean on it as a stabilizer and board-presence piece in one.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Olivia, Opulent Outlaw
Olivia, Opulent Outlaw's treasure-making rewards every creature that hits play, and Angelic Sell-Sword delivers two triggers at once — the Angel and the Soldier token both generate treasure, accelerating the deck's resource engine while putting meaningful air power on the board.

Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer
Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer tutors creatures directly into play, which completely erases Angelic Sell-Sword's seven-mana barrier — you get the 4/4 flier, the token, and both enter-the-battlefield payoffs without ever tapping that much mana.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Angelic Sell-Sword actually lives — the singleton format's tolerance for high-cost value creatures, combined with the prevalence of blink, reanimation, and token-doubler effects, gives it a real home. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but irrelevant; seven mana is a losing proposition in formats where the game is often decided by turn three. Oathbreaker shares Commander's structure and could support it in the right shell, but the smaller deck size and faster clock make the top end harder to justify. Stick to Commander.

$0.37 bulk tier
At $0.37, Angelic Sell-Sword sits firmly in bulk territory — you're not paying a premium for this effect. Bulk rares rarely climb without a competitive breakout, and this card's ceiling is casual Commander demand, so don't expect meaningful appreciation.
