Akroma's Memorial lands and every creature you control immediately has flying, first strike, vigilance, trample, haste, and protection from black and red — seven keywords stapled to your whole board at once. Seven mana is steep, but the payoff is a combat step that most tables simply cannot answer; even something as slippery as Hullbreaker Horror becomes a liability for opponents when Greymond, Avacyn's Stalwart's army swings through with protection and haste on the same turn it arrives.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Greymond, Avacyn's Stalwart
Greymond, Avacyn's Stalwart goes wide with Angels and wants every one of them connecting immediately and protected from the black and red removal that most opponents lean on — Akroma's Memorial delivers exactly that package, and the 33% inclusion rate reflects how reliably it closes games in this shell.

Bello, Bard of the Brambles
Bello, Bard of the Brambles turns lands into attackers, and a board of vanilla land-creatures is easy to chump or kill; Akroma's Memorial gives that entire army trample, haste, and protection from the two most common removal colors, turning a gimmicky threat into a one-swing kill.

Kona, Rescue Beastie
Kona, Rescue Beastie cheats large creatures into play for free, and Akroma's Memorial ensures those creatures attack the turn they arrive with a full suite of evasion — the combination collapses the usual window opponents have to stabilize before the big threats connect.

Braids, Conjurer Adept
Braids, Conjurer Adept lets everyone put permanents into play for free, which means opponents benefit too; Akroma's Memorial tips the scales decisively back by ensuring your threats hit harder, faster, and through more interaction than anything your opponents just cheated in.

Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo da Vinci generates a wide board of artifact creatures over several turns, and Akroma's Memorial converts that slow accumulation into a single explosive alpha strike by granting haste and trample to a team that otherwise just sits and waits.

Commander is the natural home for Akroma's Memorial — seven mana is a steep but reachable ask in a 40-life multiplayer format full of ramp, and the payoff of buffing an entire board is magnified when you're attacking three opponents simultaneously. In Legacy and Vintage, seven mana is functionally uncastable in any competitive context; the card is legal in both formats but irrelevant, since those formats end games before turn four and have no use for slow anthems. Oathbreaker can support Akroma's Memorial in slower, creature-heavy builds but the 20-life format compresses game length enough that you'll often be dead or winning before you untap with it. Standard and Pioneer don't have access to it, and Pauper never will — it's a Commander card through and through.

Cheaper options that do most of the same work
Cathar's Crusade and Fires of Yavimaya each cover a slice of what Akroma's Memorial does for a fraction of the price, but neither approaches the same density — you're trading seven keywords on one card for one or two spread across multiple slots. If the goal is specifically haste plus evasion for an alpha strike, a Swiftfoot Boots plus Trollhide package costs under $1 combined, though you lose the protection and board-wide reach that makes Akroma's Memorial a true finisher rather than just a combat trick.
Price Context
Current price
$34.07 premium tier
At $34.07, Akroma's Memorial sits firmly in the premium tier — expensive enough to be a meaningful deckbuilding decision, but not so scarce that it's unobtainable. It has been reprinted several times, which keeps the price from climbing higher; don't expect it to spike, but don't expect it to crater either.
