Akrasan Squire gives an attacking creature +1/+1 for free every combat — the cost is that it does nothing else. Outside of an exalted deck where that trigger stacks with five others, Akrasan Squire is a 1/1 vanilla that blocks poorly and wins nothing on its own.

Rafiq of the Many
Rafiq of the Many turns every exalted trigger into a multiplier, and Akrasan Squire is one of the cheapest ways to add another tick to that count — when Rafiq swings alone and stacks four or five exalted triggers, that +1/+1 from the Squire is the difference between lethal and not.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Akrasan Squire is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but it only matters in one of them. In Pauper, exalted aggro is a real archetype and Akrasan Squire slots in as a cheap trigger on a body. In Commander, it belongs exclusively in dedicated exalted piles — outside that context, a 1/1 for one that does nothing at sorcery speed is below the power floor of the format. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in it.

Price Context

$0.20 bulk tier
At $0.20, Akrasan Squire is bulk — buy the playset for under a dollar and don't think twice about it. Demand is narrow enough that the price has nowhere to go; treat it as a free inclusion if you need the trigger, not a spec.
