Airbender Ascension card art
Airbender Ascension lands on the table and immediately starts generating flying tokens whenever you cast spells — the payoff is front-loaded and snowballs fast. The cost is real deck-building commitment: you want The Legend of Kuruk // Avatar Kuruk or Avatar Aang at the helm to reliably hit the element triggers that make it sing.

Best Commanders

Commanders with the highest synergy

01

Avatar Aang

70.2% of decks · synergy 0.65

Avatar Aang is the primary home for Airbender AscensionAang's multi-element casting pattern triggers Ascension repeatedly in a single turn, turning the enchantment into a token army that closes games on its own.

02
Abigale, Eloquent First-Year

Abigale, Eloquent First-Year

64.9% of decks · synergy 0.62

Abigale, Eloquent First-Year leans on spellslinger volume, and Airbender Ascension rewards exactly that — each spell she chains doubles as a token generator, giving the deck a wide battlefield presence to back up its draw engine.

03

Aang, at the Crossroads

44.9% of decks · synergy 0.39

Aang, at the Crossroads shares the elemental-casting theme that Airbender Ascension is built around, making it a near-automatic inclusion at a 45% rate across those decks.

04
Katara, the Fearless

Katara, the Fearless

38.4% of decks · synergy 0.33

Katara, the Fearless generates consistent spell volume across combat and main phases, and Airbender Ascension converts that tempo into a flying board state that pressures opponents even when Katara is answering threats.

05
Fire Lord Zuko

Fire Lord Zuko

30.3% of decks · synergy 0.28

Fire Lord Zuko runs Airbender Ascension in roughly 30% of builds as an off-color token engine — the evasive tokens pair naturally with Zuko's aggressive damage-dealing gameplan.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict
commander
legacy
modern
pioneer
standard
vintage
pauper
oathbreaker

Commander is where Airbender Ascension does its best work — the long game gives the enchantment time to accrue tokens, and Avatar-tribal builds have enough critical mass to trigger it multiple times per turn cycle. In Standard and Pioneer it's legal but fringe, needing a dedicated spells-matter shell to justify the slot over more efficient payoffs. Modern and Legacy have the raw tools to build around it, but the effect isn't pushed enough to compete at those power levels outside of casual brews. Oathbreaker is a reasonable fit if the signature spell triggers Ascension, but the format's faster clock shrinks the window to capitalize.

Price Context

Current price

$2.01 cheap tier

At $2.01, Airbender Ascension sits in the sweet spot where it's cheap enough to include speculatively and good enough to keep. It's unlikely to dip further given its inclusion rate in Avatar Aang builds, so picking it up now rather than later is the right call.
