Agent of Stromgald converts a black mana into a white mana for a single turn — a narrow effect that only matters when your deck actively needs to fake a color it doesn't run. The clearest home is Acererak the Archlich loops and similar black-based combos that need a splash of white activation without committing to dual lands.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Agent of Stromgald is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but realistically sees play in almost none of them. In Commander it occupies a hyper-specific slot: mono-black or black-heavy decks that need white mana for a single combo activation and would rather run a creature than a land. Legacy and Vintage have access to far cleaner color-fixing, so Agent of Stromgald doesn't register there. Pauper is its most plausible competitive home, but even there the effect is rarely worth a card.

$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Agent of Stromgald is pure bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not demand. That price is stable in the way only deeply unplayed cards are stable: no spike is coming, but it won't disappear from dollar bins either.
