Agatha of the Vile Cauldron card art
Agatha of the Vile Cauldron exiles creatures from graveyards and staples their activated abilities onto your own creatures — permanently, for free — which turns any creature with a mana ability into a mana engine the moment something like Magus of the Candelabra hits the bin. The cost is a three-mana legendary that dies to everything, but the upside is strong enough that Redshift, Rocketeer Chief shells running her at over 65% inclusion rate have the right idea.

Redshift, Rocketeer Chief

Redshift, Rocketeer Chief

65.6% of decks · synergy 0.64

Redshift, Rocketeer Chief is built around activated abilities on creatures, and Agatha of the Vile Cauldron turns every graveyard into a free upgrade station — stacking abilities from fallen creatures onto your living ones is exactly the engine Redshift wants to accelerate.

02
Svella, Ice Shaper

Svella, Ice Shaper

35.8% of decks · synergy 0.35

Svella, Ice Shaper generates mana through tapped-creature mechanics, and Agatha of the Vile Cauldron can pull powerful tap abilities from the graveyard to compound that engine across the whole board.

03
Kenrith, the Returned King

Kenrith, the Returned King

27.7% of decks · synergy 0.26

Kenrith, the Returned King runs five activated abilities of his own, and Agatha of the Vile Cauldron lets you spread those kinds of effects to your whole team by exiling utility creatures that died along the way.

04
Shattergang Brothers

Shattergang Brothers

19.6% of decks · synergy 0.19

Shattergang Brothers sacrifices permanents repeatedly for board control, and Agatha of the Vile Cauldron recycles the activated abilities of those sacrificed creatures so the value chain doesn't stop at the graveyard.

Commander is where Agatha of the Vile Cauldron does her real work — graveyards fill fast in multiplayer, the ability-stacking scales with table interaction, and three mana is easy to rebuy from the command zone when she inevitably dies. In competitive 1v1 formats like Legacy and Vintage she's a fringe consideration, legal but too slow and too dependent on opponents doing something meaningful with their graveyard to justify a slot over faster engines. Modern and Pioneer are similar stories: the shells that want graveyard synergy in those formats have more reliable redundancy, and Agatha asks too much setup for too little immediate impact. She's a Commander card through and through.
