Abandon Hope strips your opponent's hand of every non-land card by paying X and discarding X — the effect scales hard, but so does the cost. It's a situational finisher on discard, not an engine piece, and most Commander decks have better options at any given mana value.

In Commander, Abandon Hope is a niche tool for discard-matters strategies — Tinybones, Trinket Thief or Waste Not builds that want to empty a single opponent's hand in one shot. The sorcery speed and the self-discard cost make it awkward in most other shells, since you're depleting your own resources to strip one player at a four-player table. Legacy and Vintage are the only other formats where it's legal, and neither has ever wanted it — Hymn to Tourach and Thoughtseize do the job faster and cheaper. Abandon Hope occupies a narrow role: late-game mana sink in black decks that are already built around making opponents discard.

Price Context
Current price
$0.22 bulk tier
At $0.22, Abandon Hope is deep bulk — buy it without hesitation if the slot fits, since the price reflects its fringe playability rather than any supply issue. Don't expect movement; it sits where bulk sorceries live and will stay there.
