A Killer Among Us turns any creature you control into a repeatable target-assassination machine — tap, investigate, and you've eliminated a threat while replacing itself in hand. Three mana for a 1/1 with this ceiling is a real ask, but in the right shell it earns its slot.

In Commander, A Killer Among Us slots most naturally into aristocrats and Clue-token shells where the investigate trigger doubles as card advantage and the tap ability doubles as pseudo-removal. Legacy and Vintage have no interest — three mana for conditional removal is nowhere near the speed those formats demand. Modern and Pioneer could theoretically house it in a dedicated investigate or sacrifice deck, but the competition at three mana is fierce enough that it rarely makes the cut. Standard is its best non-Commander home, where the card pool is shallow enough that a repeatable removal outlet with built-in draw is genuinely impactful.

Price Context
Current price
$0.09 bulk tier
At $0.09, A Killer Among Us is deep bulk — pick up copies without hesitation if the effect fits your deck. Bulk rares at this price point don't typically recover unless a new mechanic or Commander precon pushes demand, so treat it as a cheap role-player rather than a spec.
