The Watcher in the Water + Skullclamp + Leonin Shikari + Thermopod

4-card combo · URW

Verdict

Yes — this 4-card loop draws the library on an opponent's turn by feeding Tentacle tokens into Skullclamp and Thermopod indefinitely.

The Watcher in the Water generates two 1/1 Tentacle tokens whenever a creature enters or dies; Skullclamp kills each 1-toughness token the moment it equips and draws two cards. Leonin Shikari is the linchpin — it allows Skullclamp's equip activation at instant speed on an opponent's turn, which is the prerequisite that makes the loop live. Thermopod converts a spare Tentacle into the red mana needed to reactivate the equip, keeping the engine self-funding.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

It is an opponent's turn. You control another creature with toughness equal to 1.

02

Steps

  1. During an opponent's turn, activate Skullclamp's equip ability by paying {1}, attaching it to another creature with toughness equal to 1.
  2. The creature dies as a state-based action due to having 0 toughness. The Watcher's second ability triggers if the creature was a Tentacle, and Skullclamp triggers.
  3. Resolve the Watcher trigger, if applicable, untapping a Kraken and putting a stun counter on a permanent.
  4. Resolve the Skullclamp trigger, causing you to draw two card.
  5. The Watcher's first ability triggers twice, creating two 1/1 Tentacle creature tokens.
  6. Activate Thermopod by sacrificing a Tentacle, adding {R}.
  7. Repeat.

03

Result

Infinite card draw; Near-infinite ETB; Infinite draw triggers; Near-infinite LTB; Near-infinite death triggers; Near-infinite sacrifice triggers

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

The loop is contingent on having a non-Tentacle 1-toughness creature to start the chain — without that seed body, the engine doesn't trigger Watcher's death-replacement clause and stalls. Any 1/1 creature token generator already in the deck covers that gap cleanly. There is no compact substitute for Leonin Shikari here; losing instant-speed equip collapses the whole line, since the combo explicitly requires an opponent's turn to function.
