Zurgo Bellstriker card art
Zurgo Bellstriker hits the board on turn one as a 2/2 with haste and threatens two damage before most decks have done anything — that rate is real. The cost is a clause that turns off blocking, which barely matters when your plan is to attack before defenses exist; Yomiji, Who Bars the Way can recur it if it dies, but honestly the card is cheap enough to just recast.

In Commander, Zurgo Bellstriker occupies a narrow lane: aggressive red decks and Goblin tribal shells that want one-drops with immediate board presence, or as a cheap legend for Yuriko-style flicker/blink packages. Across competitive formats, Zurgo Bellstriker has never cracked serious Modern or Pioneer aggro rotations — Monastery Swiftspear and Goblin Guide outclass it in any burn-forward shell. Legacy has the card pool to make one-drops work, but again, Zurgo Bellstriker loses that race. Oathbreaker is the most interesting home: a one-mana legendary commander with built-in haste means you're dealing commander damage from turn one.

Price Context

Current price

$0.31 bulk tier

At $0.31, Zurgo Bellstriker is firmly bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not scarcity. Demand is low enough that the price isn't going anywhere; pick up copies without hesitation if the deck calls for them.
