Zealot il-Vec trades a delayed threat for guaranteed reach — shadow means it connects or it doesn't, and shadow plus fear means almost nothing blocks it. Two mana for a 1/1 with that evasion package is narrow but real in decks that care about combat damage triggers.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Zealot il-Vec occupies a niche role in Voltron and combat-damage-trigger shells where unblockability is the whole point — shadow is effectively unblockable in a format where almost no other creatures have it. In Pauper, the shadow-fear combination is more relevant because the format's creature density is high and evasion is genuinely hard to find at common. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a 1/1 for two that doesn't impact the board immediately. Zealot il-Vec is a Commander or Pauper card exclusively, and even there it competes with cheaper or more impactful evasion options.

$0.16 bulk tier
At $0.16, Zealot il-Vec is deep bulk — a card you pick up as an afterthought or pull from a collection bin. There's no meaningful price floor to protect here, and no demand driver likely to move it.
