Yixlid Jailer shuts off every ability on cards in graveyards — flashback, unearth, dredge, persist, all of it — on a two-mana 2/1 body that demands an answer. If your meta has even one graveyard deck, this is an include.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Yixlid Jailer fills the same role as a Tormod's Crypt that doesn't exile — it leaves the cards in the yard but makes them inert, which is often better when you want to punish without triggering exile-matters effects. Legacy and Vintage see it occasionally in sideboards as a cheap body that doubles as graveyard hate, though Rest in Peace and Leyline of the Void are stronger in those formats when raw power matters more than the body. Modern relegates it to fringe consideration for the same reason — the format has better hate available and the 2/1 stats don't compensate. It's strictly legal in Oathbreaker and most useful there in the same Dimir or five-color shells that run it in Commander.

Price Context
Current price
$0.41 bulk tier
At $0.41, Yixlid Jailer is deep bulk — you're paying for function, not scarcity. Demand is narrow enough that this price is stable; it won't spike unless a prominent graveyard deck emerges in a high-visibility format and players suddenly need a hateable body.
