Yavimaya Ancients is a 2/7 reach blocker for five mana that regenerates itself — it survives almost everything short of exile. The cost is opportunity: five mana for a creature that wins no games and generates no value is a steep ask in any format.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Yavimaya Ancients sees essentially no competitive play anywhere it's legal. In Commander, a 2/7 regenerator fills a defensive role that purpose-built staples — Treefolk Harbinger, Doran, the Siege Tower builds, or just more ramp — fill far better. Pauper is the one format where a cheap, resilient blocker with reach occasionally earns a sideboard slot against aggro, but even there Yavimaya Ancients at five mana is too slow to matter. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in it whatsoever.

Price Context
Current price
$0.28 bulk tier
At $0.28, Yavimaya Ancients is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not utility. Nothing about its playability suggests that price will move upward, so treat it accordingly.
