Wrecking Beast lands as a 7/7 with trample and haste for seven mana — it hits immediately and punches through blockers. That's a reasonable rate, but seven generic mana is a steep ask in any format where faster threats or cheaper finishers are readily available.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Wrecking Beast is a playable budget finisher in stompy or ramp decks that want a haste threat with guaranteed damage — trample plus haste on a 7/7 body closes games against single opponents and punishes anyone tapped out. In Pauper it's legal but sees no play; the format moves too fast for a seven-mana creature with no enters-the-battlefield effect or protection. Legacy, Vintage, and Modern are simply out of reach — seven mana and no broken text disqualifies it immediately. Pioneer is similarly hostile; the format's curve tops out well below this with far more efficient threats. Wrecking Beast's real home is casual Commander tables where ramp is abundant and opponents aren't holding up Swords to Plowshares.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Wrecking Beast is deep bulk — the floor for a Magic card — and there's no pressure driving that price upward. It's a fine pickup at this price if you need a haste finisher for a budget Commander build, but don't expect any appreciation.
