Wormhole Serpent locks down an opponent's entire board by making all their creatures unable to block, which is a meaningful political and combat tool stapled to a 3/6 islandwalker for six mana. The cost is real — six mana for a creature that doesn't threaten to close the game on its own is a steep ask in most blue shells.

Wormhole Serpent is a Commander card through and through — the political angle of selectively granting one player's creatures unblockable (including your own) has real multiplayer value that evaporates in 1v1 formats. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's unplayable; six mana for a 3/6 with a conditional evasion ability doesn't come close to meeting the rate those formats demand. Commander is where the tap ability does real work, letting you redirect attacks, push through lethal damage on a key turn, or negotiate with tablemates — and the islandwalk is a free bonus in blue-heavy pods.
