Woodland Guidance

Sorcery

Return target card from your graveyard to your hand. Clash with an opponent. If you win, untap all Forests you control. (Each clashing player reveals the top card of their library, then puts that card on their choice of the top or bottom. A player wins if their card had a greater mana value.)

Woodland Guidance card art
Woodland Guidance lets you return any card from your graveyard to your hand and then shuffle your library — decent recursion stapled onto a cantrip body, but the four-mana sorcery rate makes it competitively slow. It finds a niche in dedicated graveyard-recursion or landfall-adjacent green decks, but it's rarely the best tool for the job.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict

oathbreaker

Woodland Guidance is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but sees essentially no competitive play in any of them. In Legacy and Vintage, four mana at sorcery speed for a single card of recursion is unplayable — those formats close games before this does anything meaningful. Modern has cheaper, more flexible recursion options that make Woodland Guidance invisible there too. Commander is the only format where it sees any real play, and even there it's a fringe inclusion — most green decks can find recursion that either costs less mana or returns multiple cards.

Price Context

Current price

$0.22 bulk tier

At $0.22, Woodland Guidance is deep bulk — the price reflects limited demand rather than scarcity. It won't appreciate unless a future commander specifically rewards this effect, so treat it as a cheap slot-filler while you find something better, not a long-term staple.
