Wooden Stake is a two-mana equipment that destroys a Vampire it deals damage to — a narrow, conditional removal effect stapled to a piece of equipment with no other upside. Outside of vampire-tribal decks where the joke is the point, there is almost no reason to run this over a direct removal spell.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Wooden Stake is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but legality is not a recommendation. In Commander, the only conceivable home is a vampire-tribal deck leaning into flavor, and even there it competes poorly against unconditional removal like Swords to Plowshares. In Pauper, where efficiency is everything, Wooden Stake's combat-damage trigger condition is too slow and too narrow to see real play. Legacy and Vintage simply have no use for it.

Price Context
Current price
$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Wooden Stake is deep bulk — you're not paying for power, you're paying for a foil or a laugh. It will hold that price floor indefinitely, because demand will never outpace the supply of players who open it and immediately set it aside.
