Woebearer grants all your Horrors fear until end of turn when it enters or attacks — blanking every non-black, non-artifact blocker on the board for a full alpha strike. A 4/3 for five mana is undersized for the rate, so this slot only earns its keep in dedicated Horror tribal.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Woebearer is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but competitive Legacy, Modern, and Vintage have no interest in a five-mana 4/3 with a conditional triggered ability. Commander is the only realistic home, and even there Woebearer is a niche card — Horror tribal is a narrow archetype, and fear is strictly weaker than menace or trample in metas full of token strategies running white tokens that it can't blank. In Oathbreaker the lower starting life total makes evasive damage matter more, but the five-mana cost is still a drag in that faster format.

Price Context
Current price
$0.17 bulk tier
At $0.17, Woebearer is firmly bulk — it costs less than a sleeve. That price reflects both its narrow application and the fact that no competitive format wants it, so don't expect movement unless a pushed Horror commander suddenly makes tribal viable.
