Witch's Vengeance wipes an entire creature type for three mana at sorcery speed — in a tribal-heavy format, that's often a one-sided Damnation. The catch is narrow miss rate against non-tribal tables, but in the right meta it's one of the most efficient tribal hate pieces in black.

Witch's Vengeance is a Commander card first and almost exclusively. Tribal decks dominate the format — Elves, Goblins, Humans, Zombies — and a three-mana sweeper that dodges your own creatures entirely is a premium inclusion in any mono-black or black-splash tribal shell. Outside Commander, it sees essentially no play: Modern and Pioneer have faster, more consistent removal that doesn't depend on the opponent's creature type, and Legacy's threats are too diverse and resilient for a conditional wipe to earn a slot. Oathbreaker is a functional home for the same reasons as Commander, just a smaller stage.
