Wirewood Elf taps for green mana and has the Elf subtype — that's the entire case for running it. Outside of dedicated Elf tribal synergies that care about creature count or Elf-specific payoffs, it's outclassed by two-mana ramp that puts a land into play.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

In Commander, Wirewood Elf earns a slot only in Elf tribal decks where anthem effects, Elvish Archdruid, or Ezuri, Renegade Leader need bodies to count — the mana it produces is secondary to the subtype it carries. Pauper is where it sees the most competitive daylight, slotting into Elf combo shells that chain creatures into a mana explosion. Legacy and Vintage are legal but irrelevant; no competitive list there needs a vanilla 1/1 for two when Llanowar Elves and Elvish Mystic exist at one mana. Wirewood Elf is a tribal enabler first and a ramp piece second in every format where it appears.

Price Context
Current price
$0.21 bulk tier
At $0.21, Wirewood Elf is deep bulk — you'll find it in any dollar-rare bin without looking hard. It holds no price floor beyond cardboard cost, so don't expect it to move in either direction.
