Wire Surgeons

Creature — Human Artificer

Fear (This creature can't be blocked except by artifact creatures and/or black creatures.)
Each artifact creature card in your graveyard has encore. Its encore cost is equal to its mana cost. (Exile it and pay its mana cost: For each opponent, create a token copy that attacks that opponent this turn if able. They gain haste. Sacrifice them at the beginning of the next end step. Activate only as a sorcery.)

Wire Surgeons card art
Wire Surgeons turns your graveyard into a free reanimation engine — every artifact creature that dies can come straight back, no mana required, which means a Blightsteel Colossus that hits the bin via mill or sacrifice isn't gone, it's just waiting. The cost is running a five-mana enchantment that does nothing until something dies, so it rewards decks that are already killing their own stuff rather than decks hoping to set up the loop from scratch.

Format Analysis

Wire Surgeons is a Commander card through and through — the format's singleton graveyard density, longer game length, and artifact-creature staples give it the critical mass it needs to generate repeated value. In Legacy and Vintage, where the card is technically legal, the five-mana enchantment investment simply doesn't survive long enough to recoup its cost against faster, more hostile disruption. Commander is where Wire Surgeons earns its slot: artifact-heavy strategies running sacrifice outlets and fat artifact creatures can loop the engine turn after turn without spending additional mana on individual reanimation spells.
