Whipstitched Zombie is a 2/2 for two mana that becomes a liability the moment you stop feeding it Zombies — its upkeep cost of sacrificing a Zombie or sacrificing it will drain your board in any deck that can't reliably supply fodder. In a dedicated Zombie tribal shell with consistent token generation, it's a passable body; everywhere else, it's a trap.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

In Commander, Whipstitched Zombie earns a slot only in Zombie tribal decks that generate enough tokens to treat the upkeep cost as negligible — think Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver, where decayed tokens exist specifically to be sacrificed. In Legacy and Vintage it's not a consideration; a 2/2 for two with a mandatory upkeep sacrifice has never been competitive in those formats. Pauper is the one format where Whipstitched Zombie is technically viable in a Zombie synergy shell, though even there it competes poorly against more efficient common threats.
