Whipgrass Entangler card art
Whipgrass Entangler locks down multiple creatures per turn by paying one white mana each to tap them and prevent their untap — a repeatable tap effect that scales with your mana. The cost adds up fast in a three-player pod, so it belongs in decks that generate excess white mana, not as a generic include.

In Commander, Whipgrass Entangler earns a slot in white decks built around untap engines or mana-generation payoffs — think Hokori, Dust Drinker-adjacent stax shells or Azor's Gate-style big-mana white — where tapping down two or three threats per turn is genuinely backbreaking. Outside of that niche, three mana for a 1/1 that requires further investment every turn is too slow for the format's speed. Pauper is where Whipgrass Entangler has the most structural upside: the format's creatures are smaller, the games go longer, and a repeatable tap effect at common rarity is harder to replace. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters — the effect doesn't come close to competing at those power levels.

Price Context

Current price

$0.14 bulk tier

At $0.14, Whipgrass Entangler is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not scarcity. It won't hold or gain value, but that's irrelevant: if the effect fits your deck, the price is never the obstacle.
