Wayward Soul is a 2/3 flier with a built-in loot trigger — pay one blue mana to draw then discard, keeping your hand cycling and your graveyard stocked. The rate is unspectacular, but in decks that want cards in the bin or reward repeated looting, it earns its slot.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Wayward Soul fits narrow but real homes — reanimator piles and madness shells that need cheap, repeatable looting on a body. In Pauper, where card-selection at common is genuinely scarce, Wayward Soul sees occasional play in blue tempo and graveyard synergy decks that can't access rarer options. Legacy and Vintage have no use for it; the competition at every point on the curve is simply too stiff. Oathbreaker is the same story as Commander: situationally useful in the right graveyard or madness build, irrelevant everywhere else.

Price Context
Current price
$0.22 bulk tier
At $0.22, Wayward Soul is deep bulk — you're not paying for the card, you're paying for the shipping. That price is stable by nature: there's no spike waiting to happen here, and it's a safe, low-risk pickup for any deck that genuinely wants the effect.
