Wayward Guide-Beast puts a land into play from your hand at the cost of returning a land you control — a net-zero land swap that happens to come stapled to a 2/1 with trample and haste for one red mana. The body is irrelevant; this card lives or dies on whether you have a reason to want a specific land in play right now rather than the one already there.

In Commander, Wayward Guide-Beast earns a slot in landfall decks that want to re-trigger enters-the-battlefield effects — bouncing a Fetch or a utility land to replay it is real value, even if the setup cost is real too. In Modern and Legacy, the one-mana 2/1 haste body is passable but the land-swap effect is too slow and narrow to compete; aggressive red decks have no shortage of better one-drops. Pioneer has the same problem — the effect doesn't map cleanly onto any of the format's established strategies. Wayward Guide-Beast is functionally a Commander card wearing a multi-format legal badge.

Price Context
Current price
$0.25 bulk tier
At $0.25, Wayward Guide-Beast is deep bulk — the kind of card you pick up without thinking about it. Demand is narrow enough that the price is unlikely to move unless a high-profile landfall or land-bounce Commander breaks out and pulls it along.
