Warden of the Wall enters as an artifact on your opponents' turns, taps for colorless mana, and becomes a 2/4 vigilance creature once you need a blocker — three roles on one card for three mana. The cost is real: the mana is colorless, the body takes a turn to switch on, and neither half is impressive enough to justify the slot in most lists.

In Commander, Warden of the Wall sits in the overlap between budget ramp and budget blocker, which sounds useful until you realize dedicated ramp and dedicated blockers both do their jobs better and cheaper. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a three-mana do-little artifact when fast mana and efficient threats dominate. Modern has long since moved past this power level. Warden of the Wall is functionally a Commander-only card by default, and even there it earns a slot only in artifact-matters decks desperate for bodies that double as mana rocks.

Price Context
Current price
$0.12 bulk tier
At $0.12, Warden of the Wall is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not the effect. That price is a ceiling, not a floor; demand is low enough that it's unlikely to move in either direction.
