Vitality Hunter card art
Vitality Hunter enters and immediately redistributes counters from your opponent's creatures to yours — no setup required, no hoops to jump through. The four-mana cost is the ceiling on its ambition; it's a value body in counter-matters decks and a near-blank everywhere else.

Format Analysis

oathbreaker

Vitality Hunter is a Commander card through and through — the format's longer games give you enough time to hit four mana and enough opponents to find a meaningful target worth stripping counters from. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but wholly irrelevant; those formats move too fast and punish four-mana do-nothings without immediate board impact. Oathbreaker shares enough of Commander's pace that Vitality Hunter can see fringe play in the right shell, but the smaller deck size makes dedicated slots harder to justify.

$0.31 bulk tier

At $0.31, Vitality Hunter sits firmly in bulk territory — pick it up without a second thought if the synergy is there. Bulk rares rarely climb unless they slot into a breakout archetype, and counter-redistribution is too narrow a niche for that kind of movement.
