Visions of Duplicity swaps control of all creatures on both sides of the table simultaneously — a one-card board flip that can steal a game outright when your opponent has the better board. Two mana for that effect is criminally cheap, and the instant speed makes it a combat trick, a theft engine, and a political weapon all in one.

Commander is where Visions of Duplicity does its best work — multiplayer tables regularly feature one player ahead on creatures, and a single casting can shift the entire game state in your favor while stranding opponents with your weakest tokens. The political dimension matters too: you can swap in response to an attack, punishing the aggressor with their own army. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but functionally irrelevant, since those formats end before symmetrical board exchanges become interesting. Oathbreaker is the one other format worth noting, where the compressed game state means the swap lands faster and hits harder.
